The TTU district is located in eastern Indonesia and is dominated by mountains. The district capital is Kefamenanu. Only 6% of the district is coastal. Iits main border is with East Timor. Plan started work in Kefamenanu in 1999, and now works in 49 villages scattered through 10 sub districts.

Program Highlights
Public Health
Plan is helping to build the skills of health workers and community volunteers in basic health care and nutrition improvement, as well as helping renovate health infrastructure. At school xx 28 students have become child facilitators in the school health and community sanitation programs. [Photo opportunity here?]
Early Childhood Care and Development
Plan is implementing this program in cooperation with the village health volunteers. They can monitor the health status of children under five, and also help stimulate the development of the under fives. Resulting from Plan’s campaigning, there are now xx 57 playgroups serving 4-to-6 year-old children, integrated with TTU’s elementary schools.
Quality Elementary Schooling
Plan in Kefamenanu has entered a partnership with the local education office to develop child-friendly schools, and in some schools Plan has now organized school based management training, child rights training and other related training for teachers.
Sustainable Livelihoods
To deal with lack of water for agriculture in the district, Plan is helping local farmers to practice dry land farming. Farmers have also received training in animal husbandry, and school-leavers, especially early leavers, have been trained in skills such as carpentry, sewing and engine repairs.

Child Protection and Participation
Child abuse still takes place in the district, and Plan is working with the community on this issue. Xx 30 children’s clubs at the village level and the TTU District Children’s Forum provide encouragement for children to participate more in society.
Universal Birth Registration
Following Plan’s campaign, TTU district now has a free local system of birth registration for children aged 0-60 days. Plan continues to lobby the government for new local regulations on free birth certificates for all children.
